Mark Trenwith debuts at the Edinburgh Fringe/Laughing Horse Free Festival with “Be My Friend” a show packed with risky social experiments in the name of being friendly.

Be My Friend is the tale of Australian comedian Mark Trenwith's quest to be friendlier to people through a series of peculiar and poignant social experiments.

“Tummy-clenching, belly aching stuff..” said ArtsHub of Trenwith's barrage of public stunts which resulted in everything from run-ins with gangsta’ rappers to brushes with the law.

“I like to ‘do’ things in my comedy rather than just talk or complain about it,” explains Trenwith of his various experiments which have included sending a singing telegram as a job application, adorning strangers feet with rose petals and writing letters to people with the last name friend. “Just to see if they were friendly,” explains Trenwith, “turns out they weren't. Turns out they called the police!”
It is all presented in a fast paced blend of stand up and multi-media that according to Rip It Up "is more animated than Mickey Mouse."
“I just get bored watching one guy on stage for an hour,” says Trenwith. “I like to surprise my audiences with videos, sound effects and other theatrics making them feel like they’ve seen something really special.” Henry Nicholls of Db Magazine says, “the various multimedia bits Trenwith uses are the highlights, each more surreal than the last....makes this show one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen.”

Trenwith’s ‘playing with the world around him’ style of comedy has seen him perform at the last four Adelaide Fringe Festivals, two Melbourne Comedy Festivals and earned him roles in film (Peaches with Hugo Weaving) and on TV (Being Me – ABC TV). He is fast becoming an accomplished actor with several professional theatre appearances (Where's The Best Engine, Great Southern Land, Punchline) and a short film appearance (Gimme Shelter) which saw him nominated for Best Actor in the Young Australia Media Awards in 2008.

"half a packed Rhino Room gave Trenwith a standing ovation..." Adelaide Advertiser
